She has worked in Health Psychology research and practice for the last 21 years holding a variety of private, academic and NHS roles. She also held a Medical Research Council (MRC) Population Health Scientist Research Fellowship and has taught medical and psychology students at the University of Liverpool and University of Central Lancashire. She currently works part-time in an NHS Hospital Clinical Health Psychology Department.
Sharon’s area of interest is in understanding how people respond to illness. She has worked with people with many different health conditions including: cancer, heart disease, diabetes, chronic pain, and arthritic and skin conditions. She believes that people can (and should be helped to) self-manage the challenges and difficult life changes that often accompany ill-health. Therefore Sharon’s clinical work focuses on supporting people affected by illness to come to terms with their diagnosis, manage health-related worries and concerns, and explore ways of adapting or changing their health-related behaviour.
